A truly One of a Kind Experience
Well another Holiday season has passed and that means another One of a Kind Show here in Toronto has passed. With the success of last years show, we decide to apply again to this years 2016 show! However this year we applied for the full 11 day show, Yikes! Since last years 5 days almost killed us, this year was going to prove to be a long 11 days.
This years show was definitely less stressful to prepare for than last. Simply due to the fact that we were better prepared and knew what exactly what products to bring. We started off looking at last years most popular prints and printed twice as many. Our number one sellers from our Illustrative Quote Series were, Bicycle, Your Story, Originality and Play it Loud. And from our Zombie Map Series we noticed that our local Toronto Map was very popular as well as our medium sized Canada Map. So we made sure to bring lots of these. We took out our Hand Lettered prints as they were not as popular last year as we hoped.
NEW for 2016 was the addition of our Inspirational Tees. Given our recent work with BRIKA we introduced some new packaging to our tees. We really liked how well these presented themselves and how easy it was for customers to gift them. We got several comments on how well the packaging worked:) We also introduced some of our Film & TV prints to the show which we also got great feedback on.
One of our biggest additions to our booth was the launch of Artfully Spoken! We were very excited to showcase this within our Illustrative Quote section, however we realize that we couldn't technically sell them because they weren't 'One of a Kind'. So we gave it away instead. We made a little sign informing customers who bought 3 prints that they could get the book as a nice little throw in;) Problem solved. Actually this worked so well that we were sold out of books by the 3rd day! (Note to self, bring more next year.)
A few things we changed from last years booth display were the addition of some industrial metal pipes for the hanging of our tees. As well as new packaging for all our prints. Last year we used a more flimsy plastic poly bag to wrap our prints, they did the trick but didn't display the way we wanted them too. This year we bumped up our budget and went with heavier 2 mil thick bags that were archival safe and acid free. These made a 100% difference in the display of our prints. Also another small detail is that we went right to the edge of the bag with our prints rather than have a bit of cardboard backing showing. This also displayed the prints much nicer than last year.
Our lighting was also changed from last years. I think last year lights were purchased at Canadian Tire and were a cost savings alternative. This year we found some great new lights from IKEA that we the exact look we wanted!
As always we kept track of everything spent. Below is a brief outline of the total cost. As you can see, it's a big investment which ultimately puts a great deal of pressure on us to deliver.

Show fee - $3,500
Electricity - $150

The 2016 One of a Kind show was a huge success for us. We met tons of new people and had an even better year than last. With that being said we are proud to announce that we are trying the Spring One of a Kind Show here in Toronto which runs from March 29th - April 2nd. 5 days should be a piece of cake:) lol. We also signed up for the winter show again and will be running our both for the full 11 days. Thanks to all who attended and stopped by to say hi! See you all next year.
